New trailer on the website:

EDIT: This is the same trailer that's available on Live.

Unfortunately, I'm cut off from Xbox Live right now (I haven't been able to sign in since Sunday), so I can't confirm if its the same or not. I've heard conflicting reports on whether or not the trailer is available in all marketplaces or just Japan... If it was actually available in all marketplaces, that should be rather telling for release plans for the game.

Small bit: RFA has an official blog now, where the guy can talk about how he's not working on the game but playing Call of Duty 4 on Live.

http://www.success-corp.co.jp/blog/index.php?blogid=5

Is Gun Dogs going to be included in the collection? Cause that would be hot.

Just for completeness sake, the latest blog post (1/22) talks about the challenges of converting assembly code to run on a 360, and mentions that the 360 version is indistinguishable from the SPI version when played side-by-side.

If I had a nickel for every time someone said that only to have it turn into complete bullshit, I could afford to buy the SPI boards for all three games and forget the 360 port. I'm not naive enough to hope for an "arcade perfect" port, but I do hope it's at least playable and comparable in feel to the arcade. The trailer on the website actually gives me doubts about this project, since the video looks like the game is missing video frames, which is something touched upon in the blog post, different refresh rates, and how that can totally alter the gameplay/feel.

I really need to take a look at some of those blog posts since I've been forgetting to read through them.. I'm probably going to go through the archive tonight to see what I can get out of them.

I'm planning on doing a direct comparison with the Xbox 360 versions of the games and the Raiden Fighters boards I own once the game comes out since I'm such a Raiden whore. I did notice that there were a few things in the trailer that were a little "off" from what I remember.

I'm curious whatever happened to the PSP port of Raiden Fighters that was mentioned in passing way back when. I'm going to have to dig up that link again and see who it was that stated it.

That sounds scary, in an interesting sort of way. I would think the ghosting of the PSP LCD would kill most manic shooting games. It certainly doesn't help Salamander any.

"About" page is up. Box art is in, along with the usual date/price/genre/players/rating info.

The Special Edition of INH's The Onslaught: Raiden Fighters DVD, which will be included with the first print run, features alleged better picture quality, new audio commentary, a new layout, and new "lighting capture text" (whatever that means, subtitles maybe?)

I like the idea of better picture quality, I wasn't impressed with the original at all.

EDIT: Here's a sample movie showing off some of the new features:

Today's blog entry is actually pretty hard core. It deals with a very important aspect of Raiden Fighters, the sound. It explains how the port will use the original SPI board BGM, and how they had to modify an actual board to capture the audio properly. That's so bootleg, yet so awesome at the same time. It's great to see and read about this mostly because I consider Goh Sato's work on the first 2 RF games to be some of the greatest game music ever created. I bought the original INH Onslaught DVD for the OST that came with it. While some new original compositions would be great, the original soundtrack is so good that as long as it's transfered over in one piece, it'll be enough.

That's some great stuff. How is that original INH Onslaught DVD anyway? I have a friend who's getting rid of it and I was thinking about purchasing it from him if its worth it.

It is a great collection to have on your shelf. High-score playthroughs (not really "superplays," the techniques used are for maximizing score, not style) of three awesome games on one disc, can't go wrong with that. It all depends on how much you're willing to spend, I got mine for $70, if your friend will take anything less than that, go for it.

The picture quality issue is a minor one. The image quality is literally as if you're watching a video recording of an arcade being played, it's a bit dull and dark, but the video frames are all there, you see everything, no problems. It's the best possible quality with the, no doubt, limited resources INH had at their disposal back then (this was only their second DVD).

2/6 blog entry:
There's going to be an even held at Game Shop 1983 (?) on the 10th. RFA producer, and blog author WASi303 and RF maestro Goh Sato will be there. The Success Shmups Music Tracks (mostly just Cotton) CD will be available during the event.

Off topic: I noticed a bit of a clean up on the official Moss Raiden IV page. Nothing earth shattering there yet, but it's a sign of life after months of neglect. Home port announcement imminent?

I've been waiting on seeing whether or not the UFO interactive Raiden IV story is going to come to fruition. There "early" announcement to Team Fremont may have been a bit premature because I haven't heard anything about it since.

I will say though that I have been hearing that there will be a PC version of Raiden IV coming out in Japan sometime this year or next. Makes sense considering the hardware choice that Raiden IV runs on.

A PC port makes all the sense in the world. But those early rumors of an Xbox 360 port have a bit more truth to them thanks to all the recent shooting games the system has been getting. Before it sounded like so much bullshit, nowadays it's not too far fetched. Personally I'd love it, I never expected the 360 to be "the shooter console," but it's certainly a welcome surprise.

(Whatever happened to your Raiden IV review/media blow-out? I just want to see some Type-X pornography, in as high res as possible.)

Success will be giving away a Raiden Fighters Aces Remix CD with pre-orders placed through their own webshop. I wonder (hope) NCSX will be able to score a few of those to include with their own pre-orders.

I've been really side tracked lately and it keeps getting pushed back (I have a back log of like 20 reviews i want to finish and put up but haven't for various reasons). With all the Type X2 love lately, I'll get around to it fairly soon (since the Type X is its little brother). I'm bad at keeping up with deadlines. :P

The official page was updated with a bunch of art and java clock applets for embedding into blog pages and stuff. Sort of neat, but I thought that was countdown clock, not just a stupid regular old clock.
