Street Fighter IV woes

BAH! I never get to come on here much, been really busy lately!

So it seems that Balrog and Sagat have been confirmed for SFIV.

Also, a gametap writer took a good look at how each character plays.

So just as I feared, even more SF II characters.. but that's really not a bad thing as long as they modify and improve on them right? ... oh wait.. They're still the way they always were.

Ryu's still missing his SFIII kick.
Chun Li still can't remember how to do her tenshokyaku, probably her backflip kick too.
And while the other characters seem to have kept all their old moves, there's no mention of anything new.

Now, I know it's still not finished, and I know there's still time. But for the love of god, do something new with the characters.

I will say though I'll be happy to have EX moves available on zangief.

Hopefully the new guys will be cool. Crimson Viper looked like fun in the AOU vids (very SNK-ish), haven't seen much of Abel, but what I did see I liked. The old crew are there for the folks who haven't played SF since Turbo on the SNES, so they should use the new guys to attract the hardcore SF nerds. And maybe they'll have SFIII or Alpha 2 versions of guys in there as a secret chars.

That reminds me, I once had the idea that Capcom should make a fighting game made up of nothing but Ryu's (as an example, it can be anybody really) different versions, SFII, SFII Turbo, SSFII, EX, etc. Originally I meant it as an insult to their constant revisions ("When will Capcom learn to count to three?"), but now it would seem like an interesting project. Over-power the old, less technical vers, nerf the newer ones, and it could be a viable fighter.

If not, I take no responsibility for any of it, I was like 16 when I came up with that...

I'm still curious how many characters are going to be on the roster of fighters... With 11 Super Turbo characters already confirmed and 1 pretty much guaranteed, how much room is there going to be for non-SF2 fighters? I really don't see Capcom having more thant 20 characters on the final roster...

As a side note - it seems freeforums has now invaded the board with advertising, so I'm going to be making the switch over to a new boards probably next week when I get back from my vacation. When I do, I'll step up the use of the boards and work on a more integrated system between the blog and the boards for discussions.

With all the problems I've been having with spam on the blog comments, I'm probably going to end up disabling those altogether and use one of Blogger's integrated featuers that allow you to use forums for comments.

As happy as I am that SFIV is here, it's just more of the same BS. I was pretty disappointed in capcom vs snk when it first came out, since it was all SF2 characters. And now I'm having that feeling again.

At least change them. Add moves, replace old moves with newer versions, just evolve the characters somehow.

They tried that once, it was called SF III, remember? People fear Teh CHangZ!!!!1 Keep it safe and sell a ton, or innovate and loose your audience, pick one, you can't have both. I like the fact that SF IV is playing it safe, it just makes me appreciate SF III more.

In other news, this is HOT (in more ways than one):

C. Viper is really starting to "interest" me...

El Fuerte is officially my new "main".

I have a 'thing' for lucha libre wrestling.

Lucha is cool, but only if a goofball does it, like Ramon. You can't be serious in a getup like that.

Too bad he's an original design, and not a Slammaster character brought out of retirement. I vote for more Capcom crossover fighters.

Personally I would kill for Guy or Haggar in Street Fighter IV. There are too many 'linked' franchises that they have been ignoring.

With that said, I've been told that El Fuerte is going to have a connection to Slammasters... But unfortunately didn't get an elaboration.

On another note - It's amazing to me how simple color effects really can begin to change my impression of a game's graphical style. The new images are looking more in line with what I would expect from Capcom, even if they aren't what I necessarily would've liked for the game. I still think some of the character models are a bit funky though. Ken in particular still looks rather odd...
