For me, probably kof 98 and 2000. Both have a good number of characters and good art/ backgrounds.

The worst easily have to go to the two eolith ones. Just lacked inspiratoin to me.

Best = 97 (Perfect mix of story/gameplay/gfx, music sucked though. Would be 96, but the gameplay was gimped)

Worst = 2003 and up (Tag-team KOF fails)

2002 is actually decent, I'd probably put it next to 98 as a middle-of-the-road KOF.

'98's probably my personal favorite - but I often wonder if that's sentimental reasons more than anything (it was the first cart I bought for my system).

I've been trying to introduce it to a few friends on GGPO, but they've been a bit put off by it.

I actually feel the same way about my choices. I consider 96/97 a "golden age" of games, so the KOF's from that time are my favorites almost by default. (While 2001 up to maybe mid-2007 are a "dark age")

Maybe that's KOF's "charm," thanks to the yearly installments?
